It all started in the late 80's for me. As a young teen, I went on my first missions trip to Jamaica. We went to an orphanage called Blossom Gardens. I will never forget it. I picked up sweet baby Kamisha on a hot Jamaican day and I changed her diaper, along with many other orphans. After our projects were completed, we just cuddled with the children. On that day, my awareness to the orphan heart and the idea of adoption changed me forever!

My husband and I tried to start our family naturally along with the assistance of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). It was an alternative that provided us some hope. After 6 long years, we were unsuccessful. We were brokenhearted, but did not give up on our dream to have children. We finally realized that we had to explore other options outside of ourselves… ADOPTION!

Our adoption agency hosted many classes as a part of our adoption package. We learned about a lot of the processes with adoption. The one fact that stuck the most was that over 50% of hopeful adoptive parents achieve their goal of adopting a child through their own networking. Yes… networking… simply talking to people about their hope to adopt. You know, casual conversation with others… and then suddenly, someone knows someone who has a child, relative or friend that has an unplanned pregnancy and they want to place their child for adoption. Then our friends we have networked with help to connect the dots and link us (the adoptive parents) with the birth mother. 

Being a Mama-Wanna-Be at heart, I turned my “why me” story of infertility into an opportunity to share the message of adoption. The adoption community is special and strong! I want to positively change the lives of those desiring to open their hearts and home to a child. I want to celebrate with you the process of finding a child and having them become a part of a loving forever family.
